Woody’s – Greenville Junction, ME

With a population of just over 1,200 people, and a remote location tucked away in central-ish Maine, you might not expect much in the way of entertainment in Greenville Junction. Boy, would you be wrong! Woody’s, located in an old barn/garage away from the main road, is the kind of place that is off the beaten path but well worth the detour.

With welcoming bartenders and friendly regulars, this place makes newcomers feel like they fit right in. If you can’t have fun here, you likely can’t have fun anywhere. This place offers all kinds of entertainment: live music, pool tables, video games (Ms. Pac-Man!), Beer Pong, Corn Hole, Flip Cup, dancing, several TVs to watch sports, and a fire pit to sit around in nice weather.

Now, these are all relatively traditional offerings for a bar, but Woody’s knows how to keep things interesting. You might come in to find there’s a wine bottle painting party, or it’s wrestling night, or even Hunks night. On some nights, they have dancers come in. a.k.a…strippers. a.k.a…nakeds. As one patron explains, “Oh and when they have strippers, they’re called ‘nakeds’ because in the T.R. (Maine-speak for a small, unincorporated town) you don’t need to start with clothes.” So long as the dollar bills keep flowing, the fun goes on and on.

This place is a wild and raucous good time. Just take a look at these reviews!

“It’s a nice mix of tourists, loggers and locals in a big barn with great bands, cold beer, red-death and an abundance of Allen’s Coffee Brandy. I heard the best pick-up line in my life there…’Everyone in this town has herpes, but me.’ Twenty-one year olds are pounding drinks alongside octogenarians, and everyone dances. If you’re nice, the owner will drive a load of drunks home in the bed of her pickup.”

“It looks like a garage hidden on a hill, can access via off road trails! Old wooden interior makes you wanna two-step with an old cowboy or make-out with a burly biker haha I was there post covid and crowd was small so I spent my night slayin’ Big Buck Hunter and my friend was cuttin’ a rug in an inflatable pool ring to insure ‘social distancing’ house rules style!”

Simply put, “it’s a magical place.”

With all this activity, you may find yourself building up an appetite, and Woody’s can help with that, too. They offer a full menu of standard bar fare: pizza, wings, chili, etc. prepared by the owner, Nicole. It’s good fuel for a memorable night out.

Woody’s is available to rent for all kinds of events. It is the kind of place that inspires such devotion from its regulars that some have even chosen it as their wedding venue—the ultimate compliment if you ask the Dive Bar Tourist!

In these strange times of Covid, their hours may vary, so you may want to check if they’re open before you make the trip.

Be sure to try: Allen’s Coffee Brandy (a citrus-based brandy, amped up by coffee and sugar. Whoa. It’s the #1 best-selling spirit in Maine!)
